Safety First
What Happens When a Guest Has an Emergency
HostTalk is an AI assistant, not a substitute for emergency services. Here's exactly what happens when a guest calls or texts about an emergency situation.
Life-Threatening Emergencies
If a guest mentions fire, smoke, a medical emergency, a gas leak, carbon monoxide, or any threat to personal safety, HostTalk immediately:
- Instructs the guest to call 911 without delay
- Sends an emergency SMS alert to the property host instantly
- Logs the full conversation for follow-up
- Does not attempt to troubleshoot or resolve — safety takes priority over everything
HostTalk never delays or qualifies this response. The instruction to call 911 is immediate and unconditional.
Property Emergencies
For urgent but non-life-threatening situations — flooding, no heat, power outages, burst pipes — HostTalk:
- Immediately notifies the host via SMS with the guest's number and situation
- Informs the guest that their host has been alerted and will respond within the configured timeframe
- Provides any immediately helpful information from the property knowledge base (e.g. shutoff valve location)
- Logs the incident as urgent in the property dashboard
What Property Managers Need to Configure
Before your HostTalk number goes live, you must set:
- Primary emergency contact — Your mobile number — you will receive an immediate SMS for any emergency trigger
- Secondary emergency contact — A co-host or backup contact if you are unreachable
- Response time commitment — How quickly you commit to calling back a guest in a property emergency (shown to guests)
- Local emergency number — Pre-filled as 911 for North America, editable for international properties
HostTalk will not activate a property phone number until a primary emergency contact is configured.
Important Limitations
HostTalk is an AI voice and SMS assistant. It is not:
- A substitute for 911 or local emergency services
- A monitoring service or alarm system
- Able to dispatch help or contact emergency services directly
- A guarantee of host availability
If you or someone at the property is in immediate danger, always call 911 first.
Configure Your Emergency Settings
Set up your emergency contacts in your property dashboard before going live.
